Colombian Cuisine Influenced by Bolivia and Peru
Colombian cuisine refers to the cooking traditions and practices of Colombia in northwestern South America. Colombian cuisine varies in the six different regions of the country. There are a number of common dishes throughout the country as well. Colombian coffee is particularly well known world wide for its high quality and is consumed regularly by most native Colombians.
Colombian cuisine is influenced by the Spanish and Indigenous populations. It also has European influence. It is not as widely known as other South American cuisines such as Peruvian or Brazilian but still has plenty of tasty dishes. Many Colombian recipes involve fried food. Colombian cuisine has a wide variety of ingredients with meat, vegetables, grains, and dairy products all used frequently. In particular, rice, bananas, potatoes, corn, and mangoes are often used. Many foods are cooked in cream, gravy, or sauce, included soups and salads.
Some of the most popular modern day Colombian dishes include Aguardiente, Sancocho, Ajiaco, Tamal, Bandeja Paisa, and Arepa.
